Reiki is a healing art. You will be able to affect change in your own energy field as well as that of others. It is important to have a teacher present with the student during learning to identify such things as proper hand placement and make corrections as needed. It is also helpful for students to practice with each other in the presence of a teacher so that they can ask questions about what they are experiencing and feeling.

When seeking a Reiki Master to take the Master training from, it is important to ask her/him exactly what you will be able to do after you take the Master training from them. Will you receive the complete training and be able to initiate others into all the degrees including full Reiki Master or will something be left out, requiring you to take additional sub-levels or degrees and pay additional fees? Because of the changes some have made to the system of Reiki, this is a very important question.

Stage 5 This stage is all about learning to develop the Hara, an important part of the original system that Usui Sensei taught. We will use a specific meditation, or energy exercise, to achieve this, and the exercise will continue throughout the rest of the course and beyond. It will take about 10 hours to carry out these various tasks, over 14 days.

Also ask them how much support they are willing to give you to begin teaching your own classes. This is important. Some Reiki Masters will have little interest in helping you get started as they are afraid you will take student away from them. I have been a Reiki master for 10 years so did not expect much more than just to learn the Reiki Evolution way of doing attunements/empowerments but I learnt way more than that. I am now confident with the kotodama which I wasn’t previously. I am looking forward to doing many meditations with them. I found your western attunements to be longer than those I worked with originally and after doing my first empowerment and getting the result I did I will always use the empowerments. They flow and right from the start I felt comfortable with them.
When teaching Reiki to others, it is important to set a good example by being an authentic representative of Reiki energy. People cannot be so easily fooled by surface spirituality now. They want and need a real teacher who comes from experience and is working on her/his own deep healing. This requires one to meditate on the nature of Reiki energy and surrender to it. It is a continual process of working with all aspects of ones being that are out of step with Reiki energy and allowing those aspects to be healed by Reiki energy. We must seek to develop and express the qualities of love, compassion, wisdom, justice, cooperation, humility, persistence, kindness, courage, strength, and abundance as Reiki energy is all of these and more. It may seem paradoxical, but it is true that a true Reiki Master is one who is always becoming a Reiki Master. Like life itself, it is a process of continual growth.

Your hands are most likely to experience temperature changes when practising. This is the effect of the Reiki energy flowing through your hands. The person receiving Reiki (that can be you giving yourself or the person you give Reiki) will feel relaxed as the energy reduces physical, emotional and mental stress. The person receiving feels often warmth coming out of the hands of the giver.
The Reiki attunement is a powerful spiritual experience. The attunement energies are channeled into the student through the Reiki Master. The process is guided by the Rei or God-consciousness and makes adjustments in the process depending on the needs of each student. The attunement is also attended by Reiki guides and other spiritual beings who help implement the process. Many report having mystical experiences involving personal messages, healings, visions, and past life experiences.

Our Reiki Master Teacher course uses two audio CDs that contain an hour of commentary and 45 minutes of meditations and instructions. The ‘commentary’ CD summarises the main themes of your course and the ‘meditations’ CD contains various useful tracks, for example two tracks which talk you through carrying out a Reiju empowerment and a Western-style Reiki attunement. By having on CD the main things that are said to you on a live course, you really receive a version of ‘live’ training, but in the comfort of your living room, or your car, or on a walk (using a Walkman) or wherever you choose to listen to your CD. You can, in effect, ‘replay’ your teacher again and again! The attunement and empowerment audio guides talk you through the various stages, just like a teacher would do on the day of a live course. You can learn reiki in person through a class, or online through remote coursework. Whether taught in person or through a distance learning class, the benefits of reiki education and attunement are the same. The main difference is cost. In person classes tend to be more expensive, and often do not provide much in the way of course materials for later reference.

Our approach is to view Reiki as primarily a self-development, spiritual development and self-healing method and this is particularly so at Master Teacher level. While we do deal with the treatment of others comprehensively on this course, we do not lose sight of the fact that Reiki is about self-development first, and the treatment of others second. So we echo the original system that Reiki’s founder taught by rooting your practice in personal energy work.
