My journey with Reiki started after I began my professional practice as an animal communicator. I was interested in Reiki because I wanted additional tools that I could offer to my clients and their animals, particularly those who were healing from trauma, or had emotional, behavioral, or physical issues that could benefit from the holistic healing energy of Reiki.
As time went by, Mrs. Takata contemplated the need to train other Reiki Masters. She realized that the Japanese concept of respect might be difficult to instill in the Western mind. Because Reiki Mastership is so easily learned, being simply passed on during the Reiki Master attunement, she felt that Westerners might not value it. So she devised a plan of charging a large sum of money for those wanting to become Reiki Masters. She felt that money was something that Western people understood and respected and this would help create the appreciation and gratitude for Reiki that was needed. She decided that $10,000 would be a large enough sum to instill the respect needed for the Reiki Master attunement. She also set the fees for Reiki I at $175 and Reiki II at $500. These high fees have continued to be charged by some Reiki Masters, but many are now considering a lower fee structure that makes it possible for anyone who feels guided to do so to become a Reiki Master.

People move on to Master Teacher level for many reasons. Some wish to pass on the gift of Reiki to others, while others are focusing more on their own personal and spiritual development. Some take the course because they want to see all that there is of Reiki, and do with it what feels right for them. Moving on to this level does not mean that you are committing or dedicating yourself to becoming a Reiki teacher, though you never know quite where Reiki might lead you!

This course comprises of three levels. Level I is said to teach you the origins of Reiki, the benefits of Reiki treatment and the correct positions required for a Reiki treatment. Level II is a much more in-depth course that introduces Reiki power symbols. The goal of the Level III is to teach you about attunements. The lessons were designed by Rosemary Owen, Usui Reiki Master and a senior Clinical Hypnotherapist. This course might be a solid choice for individuals with an interest in holistic therapy.

We begin the course by considering the different ways that we can experience different aspects of the energy: using symbols, using sacred Shinto mantras called Kotodama, and using pure intent. We put this in the context of the original system that Mikao Usui taught and show how energies can be used when working on the self and when working on other people.
What do we look for in someone when considering them as Reiki Teachers? An enthusiasm for the subject, humility, experience, a desire to help and serve, an open heart? Ironically most people who I have taught to be Reiki Teachers were usually the last to believe they could be. If you feel a pull to do this, that is sufficient for me and together we will develop your skills and practice to another level giving you the knowledge and confidence to take someone through Reiki training yourself.
Before taking your Teacher training you and I will discuss what you expect / will learn in the class and what your intentions are as a future Teacher. It is a serious step that requires adequate preparation, and you need to feel motivated and ready for it. Extended experience with practice in Reiki Degrees 1, 2, and Master is required and the experienced use of all the Symbols is a must. This usually can be done 1-2 years or later after the Reiki Master Degree is obtained.
I have complete respect for Reiki teachers in all traditions who feel strongly that teaching Reiki only in-person is what is right for them, and I also completely support people who wish to learn Reiki in an in-person environment. I want as many people as possible to have the tool of Reiki, however they come to it and however they use it. I feel it’s important to work with a qualified, well-trained Reiki Master who understands how to teach about Reiki; however, Reiki itself is our most important teacher.
I feel truly blessed to have found this wonderful course and amazing Reiki Master Melissa. The course is easy to follow and I love how you can complete it at your own pace. Melissa is such a compassionate genuine teacher and helped guide me whenever I needed assistance. The course is written so beautifully it helps you to understand the importance of self care before healing others. During your home study course you will receive a series of distant ‘Reiju’ empowerments which are there to support your work with sacred Shinto mantras called ‘kotodama’ and to move you on to (or “attune” you) at Master level. These traditional Japanese empowerments help to open up further the channels through which Reiki flows, they emphasise to your system important aspects of the energy that you will be working with, and they introduce you powerfully to a state of oneness. They are equivalent to Western-style Reiki ‘attunements’ but come closer to passing on what was intended by Reiki’s founder, Mikao Usui. During your course you will also receive some Western-style Reiki “attunements” at a distance, so you will have been initiated using both original Japanese and Western-style methods. During the later stages of your course, you will ‘tune in’ to distant Reiju empowerments which we send out every day, on Mondays. Your Reiki potential will not lessen over time, so tuning into these empowerments is not essential, but doing so will make a difference to you and your Reiki practice and echoes the practice of Reiki’s founder, Mikao Usui, who empowered his students on a regular basis.
I absolutely love Reiki, I've studied with Masters in the UK, the US, India and from Japan and Hawaii and have been teaching for almost 25 years since leaving nursing. I teach in a practical, grounded and inspirational way but my workshops usually contain a lot of laughter as well as learning. The heights of experience you gain by moving on to the next level which is Reiki level 2 includes a more in-depth experience with the ki which furthers your spiritual development and your self-healing practice, as the Reiki symbols will be taught to you. In this level, the knowledge that will help you to give others(whether in person or distant) the Reiki treatment will be explained to you. It is generally advised that you wait a couple of months from your first level attunement before you move into the second.
In Kyoto, there will be the opportunity for sightseeing and cultural exchange. The highlight of our visit will be a day trip to Mount Kurama, the very birthplace of Reiki where Sensei Usui meditated for 21 days and received the Reiki energy. Kurama has many different frequencies and patterns of high vibration. We will hike up to the top of the sacred mountain for a meditation, and the Masters attunement. On the way back down we will enjoy an outside bath at the local hot spring ‘onsen’.
Practicing in person with your fellow students also provides immediate feedback. In my Reiki workshops, I always have students practice with each other more than once and with different students, so you get a sense of working with different people’s energy. Our individual energy is an imprint unique and distinct to each of us (and it’s one of the things I love about my work, noticing the beautiful differences from client to client, student to student.)
As interest in the courses grew it quickly became clear that Marion was not going to be able to meet the demand in a way that suited her. Marion firmly believes that Reiki courses should be run either on a one to one basis, or in small groups certainly of no more than four people. In that way each person is guaranteed the attention that they deserve, ensuring that the course is very special to them.
