12. By receiving an attunement you will become part of a group of people who are using Reiki to heal themselves, and each other, and who are working together to heal the Earth. You will also be receiving help from Reiki guides and other spiritual beings who are also working towards these goals. While Reiki is not a religion, you may prepare your mind with intention work and pray in a religious mode comfortable to you to prepare to open to higher spiritual energies and experiences.
In the end, we must consider that a Reiki Master is not one who has mastered Reiki, but one who has been mastered by Reiki. This requires that we surrender completely to the spirit of Reiki, allowing it to guide every area of our lives and become our only focus and source of nurturing and sustenance. As we proceed toward the end of the millinium, the Way of Reiki offers itself as a solution to our problems and a path of unlimited potiential. We spend some time working with Intent, and go through various exercises that help to ‘open our eyes’ to the simplicity and power of Reiki, and the importance and versatility of intent in terms of directing the energy and experiencing different energies. I was able to meditate for a half hour before receiving my attunement, and I felt ready to receive the Reiki Melissa sent, but I had no idea it would be so powerful. It was late at night and everyone was sleeping but me, and right away my hands became hotter than they ever have. My entire body began buzzing. I closed my eyes to tune into the energy and attunement, and I could see the different symbols swirling around my head. Each had its own color, and as they entered my crown, I felt another jolt of peace and energy. Once all five were in my crown, my hands started to vibrate. Each symbol came yet again, this time entering each palm. My hands became hotter and hotter, and my entire body started to sing. Of all the attunements I’ve received, this was by far the most powerful and clear. As she cleared my chakras, I felt my body unravel and the stress lift. Everything was at peace.

Reiki is a healing art. You will be able to affect change in your own energy field as well as that of others. It is important to have a teacher present with the student during learning to identify such things as proper hand placement and make corrections as needed. It is also helpful for students to practice with each other in the presence of a teacher so that they can ask questions about what they are experiencing and feeling.

Reiki/Seichem is performed by the ‘laying-on of hands’ whilst the client remains fully clothed on a massage couch or seated in a chair. The practitioner channels this life energy through their hands to the recipient for the purposes of healing the body, mind & spirit. It is said to accelerate the body’s ability to heal physical ailments, opens the mind & spirit to the causes of disease and pain, reinforcing the recipient’s ability to take responsibility for their life. The hand positions correspond to the energy centres of the body & their associated organs. The Practitioner may work ‘hands off’ to facilitate deeper healing in the energy field. The number of treatments depends upon the root cause of the problem and the amount of energy needed to restore the well-being.
Learning Reiki is a good starting point for experiencing and working with healing energy and a wonderful method for depending awareness of universal energy. In general, Reiki complements other healing methods and spiritual practices. There are no hard and fast rules about how to approach starting Reiki and starting healing. You will only know it once you experience the universal power within yourself.

I really enjoyed this course, it was set out in a great format that is easy to follow and track your progress. Melissa has an easiness to her teaching style and it all felt natural and simple. Being in a state of oneness with someone is something explored through the Distance Reiki technique (otherwise known as the Absentee Healing technique) in Reiki II. Once a student has had the direct experience of working with energy on themselves, their classmates, and friends and family, as well as learning and practicing this technique, they will be better able to understand and experience online attunements.

After Mrs. Takata passed on in December, 1980, the twenty-two Masters she had initiated continued to teach and eventually began initiating other Masters. At first they taught in the same way Mrs. Takata had done, teaching the complete system in three degrees. Eventually some Masters began making changes to the system, adding knowledge and healing skills they had acquired from experience and inner guidance. Some took the third degree that originally contained the complete Master training and broke it up into two or more parts. Some actually broke the Master degree up into as many as five parts, calling each part a new degree.
The second Symbol (Mental, Emotional and Addiction) gives you access to hidden regions of consciousness, be it your own or of a person you treat. Mental healing can help you to transform misdirected energies so that the receiver can experience optimism, love, and happiness. It is here that healing for addiction and unwanted habits can be applied (e.g. smoking/alcohol/gambling cessation and obsessive thoughts/preoccupation).
Before taking your Teacher training you and I will discuss what you expect / will learn in the class and what your intentions are as a future Teacher. It is a serious step that requires adequate preparation, and you need to feel motivated and ready for it. Extended experience with practice in Reiki Degrees 1, 2, and Master is required and the experienced use of all the Symbols is a must. This usually can be done 1-2 years or later after the Reiki Master Degree is obtained.
Your hands are most likely to experience temperature changes when practising. This is the effect of the Reiki energy flowing through your hands. The person receiving Reiki (that can be you giving yourself or the person you give Reiki) will feel relaxed as the energy reduces physical, emotional and mental stress. The person receiving feels often warmth coming out of the hands of the giver.
Finally, we reviewed the Reiki Level I, II and Master Teacher Program, which gives the students the tools they need to be a certified Traditional Usui Reiki practitioner/instructor. The Usui system is a healing practice focused on self healing. This course will enable students to heal themselves and experience personal growth. I also am a Reiki Master. I've always known I have this incredible connection and am blessed. Not practicing or working enough these days, but when I do, I cry for the happiness, joy, and peace within. I paid good money for a hands on healing class, but the amount of verbal learning was way too overwhelming for me, and missed some info, my binder and notes, were not enough.
You will choose a specific date and time that is convenient for you and myself and you will relax at that set time. I will connect energetically with you and perform the ceremony. Reiki energy is non-invasive and your body decides how much Reiki it will use and what it will address. The attunements are with you for life and you can then use Reiki whenever you wish.
The Kotodama, or ‘jumon’, are sacred Shinto mantras used by Usui before the introduction of symbols into Reiki. We show how these mantras can be used when carrying out treatments, we become familiar with their characteristic energies, we discover how they can be used for self-healing and spiritual development, and we learn how they can be used in conjunction with Reiju empowerments. During the course, the student will be chanting the kotodama over an extended period to further their self-healing and spiritual development, to deepen their connection to and experience of these energies, and they will also be using these energies when treating others.
